A one pound tub of yellow mushroom popcorn kernels - about eight stovetop batches from a quarter-cup scoop. The smallest size we sell this variety in, and the right one for finding out whether mushroom corn changes how your caramel corn turns out.
Start here before you commit
Most people arrive at mushroom corn with a specific problem: their homemade caramel corn or kettle corn shatters, and the bottom of the bowl fills with sweet crumb. One pound is enough to make several batches and see the difference for yourself before buying two, eight or fifty.
It is also the size that works as a gift on its own. A single tub is presentable, sealed and reclosable, so it goes straight into a basket without repacking.
What makes it different
Mushroom kernels pop into a dense, close to spherical ball. Butterfly corn pops into an irregular winged shape, and those wings are what break off the instant you tumble popcorn in hot sugar. A ball has nothing to break. That is the whole reason commercial caramel corn is made from mushroom corn, and the reason your batches will hold together the way store-bought does.

For plain buttered popcorn, butterfly is the more tender choice and holds seasoning better. Mushroom is the coating corn.
Popping it
Do not crowd the pan; mushroom needs space to expand into a full sphere. Two to three tablespoons of oil or beef tallow heated until it shimmers, a quarter cup of kernels, lid on, off the heat when popping slows. Screw the lid back down between uses - the moisture sealed inside each kernel is what makes it pop.

no old maids, big fluffy kernels, yummy!
It was OK! I let the popper heat for 3 or 4 minutes before I put the popcorn in as instructed. I felt the popcorn was a little tough and there were LOTS of hulls floating around. I actually like the store brand popcorn better.

Was very excited to received Princeton popcorn. I used my air popper to prepare Princeton popcorn and just added a little salt. Sorry to tell you I was not happy with the taste. Yes all the kernels popped up like a mushroom and have plenty of eating material. Taste to me is lacking, the popcorn feels heavy and a little thick in your mouth. I was so looking forward to some great tasting popcorn. I am disappointed with Princeton Popcorn purchase.

I was hoping this would be my go to popcorn whenever I in the mood for some really good popcorn. On my first pop, I was disappointed and figured I must not have done something right. I reread the information sheet and decided to place the popper on high heat and the result was worse than the first time. It tasted ok, but the popped corn was much smaller than I had anticipated.
was not as good as I thought way too many brown skin popcorn residue have to spit them out or get caught in the throat or in the teeth back to orville redinbacher

I don't know if it was something I did but my popcorn didn't pop any larger than something I could have gotten in a grocery store. It was also tough, like it was old. To me, not worth buying again.

This is the best, most fully popped, popcorn I've ever made at home. All of the kernels make those beautiful round balls of crunchy goodness!
The flavor was good, but the seed husk was over whelming. My rating was a tosas-up between Okay, and Bad. Sorry, but we wont be making another purchase.

Hi, I am just trying to find the best way to pop this, I bought the stainless steel whirly gig and haven't used it yet. One thing that annoys me about your website is that this pop ups keep happening telling me so and so bought popcorn. It's hard to concentrate on the site. The popcorn tastes good.
Never received any popcorn
The popcorn doesn't taste very good and has large hull pieces and someone can break a tooth, so I won't give away what I purchased, I want to return it - however - your website says call or email. I emailed and got no response.
no favor and too many husks more than any brand I have tasted. I was hoping to have a great new brand without millions of husks. Disappointed
