This is the stovetop popper Farmer Bob uses himself, and the one the company runs in its test pop kitchen. After wearing out a long list of lighter competitors, we settled on this build and now sell it because customers kept asking what we were popping with.
Why a heavy-duty popper
Cheap poppers fail in the same three places: the gears strip, the crank arm bends, and the thin base scorches before the kernels are hot enough to pop evenly. A heavy-gauge base spreads heat instead of concentrating it in a hot ring, and a stirring arm that actually holds up keeps kernels moving so the ones on the bottom do not burn while the top is still cold.
- Even heat across the base, so fewer scorched pieces and fewer unpopped kernels.
- Geared hand crank that agitates continuously without you shaking the pan.
- Built for mushroom popcorn, which needs room to expand into full round balls.
- Pours straight from the lid into your bowl.
- Works with oil or beef tallow, which is where the flavor comes from.
How Farmer Bob pops
Set the burner to high. Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of a high smoke point oil or Farmer Bob's beef tallow. Wait until you see steam coming off the fat, then drop in three test kernels. When those pop, add a quarter to a third of a cup of kernels, close the lid and crank steadily. When popping slows to one pop every second or two, pull it off the heat. Season immediately while the surface is still hot enough to hold salt. Start to finish it runs about four to five minutes.
Care
Let the popper cool, then hand wash and dry it fully. Do not soak the gear housing or run it through a dishwasher. A dry popper stored with the lid off will outlast several throwaway ones.

Very nice I enjoy popping popcorn again
Comes in pieces requiring assembly. Difficult. Broke trying to put together the handle. Now in trash. Didn’t even get to use it one time.
Great product. Took a long time to receive but worth the wait.
I had been wanting to buy a popper and popcorn for awhile now. I came across Princeton Popcorn and after a couple months decided to order from them. I couldn't be happier with both the popcorn and other supplies if I had to be. Not only is the popcorn great Farmer Bob was great and responding to my inquiries. I couldn't ask for a better experience. Looking forward to my next order as I eat a heck of a lot of popcorn now.
I bought both types of popcorn, popping oil, salts, and the popcorn popper. The popcorn popper is very nice and works well. The oil and salts are good, but I really do not like the taste and toughness of the popcorn. It was very expensive and I really wish I would not have bought it. It has a tough texture and odd taste.
This is the popper I was looking for! Very easy to use and also easy to clean. Venting the steam is a breeze. It's a little clumsy to empty unless you are dumping into one big bowl.
Recently bought an induction cooktop and so had to get a popper that is compatible with it. While this popper is a little pricey, it’s heavy duty and I expect it will last us many years so I’m ok with the price. The popcorn pops more quickly in this popper, which helps when I have to make multiple batches. It cleans up easily too. If you’re a popcorn lover and prefer the extra effort of stovetop popping vs microwave, I recommend this popper, regardless of your stovetop!
Awesome popper. The new gearless drive is a great improvement.
I recently purchased what turned out to be just the Stovetop Popcorn Popper. I was thinking popper and obviously popcorn to pop in it. The image shows a pan and 2 jars of unpopped popcorn, but, all I got was the pan. I should have paid closer attention, but, the image did not help.
I then ordered Princeton mushroom popcorn (via Amazon - because I wanted it sooner)
I followed the tips and popped 4 batches - 1 was "chewy", 1 was semi-chewy and 2 were light and "crisp" however, overall the amount of hulls was unpleasant. I will try a few more batches in the event the poor outcome was "user error". If it turns out the same...I'll have to try the hulless variety.
PS - the popper quality is excellent, but, you may want to think about a short online instruction video for those who are mechanically challenged.
Love this popcorn
Worked great
I bought this for my husband for Christmas. Since we have an induction range, I had to make sure to get one that would work (as opposed to less expensive, aluminum versions) and this does a perfect job. We do have to be careful about not turning it up too high, but other than that, it pops every kernel perfectly.
The popper is so easy to use. Popcorn comes out great!
This popper works better than any other popper that I have used. I make sure to wash it after each use and not let it set on the stove overnight. I do have a question tho, do I salt the popcorn when I put it in the pan, or after it is popped?
I bought the entire kit. The popcorn was tough, seemed dry. I will try again later this week when my granddaughters come over. They are popcorn eating machines. They have only had microwave popcorn, so we will see how they like this.
I have had a chance to use your Stovetop Popcorn popper about 10 times so far. WOW What a GREAT popper.
I had 2 other brands of poppers in the past, but the gears wore out on both of them.
The turning mechanism on this popper, and the craftsmanship of the pan, handle, and crank are superb! I also like how the steam vents face inward, keeping the steam off your hands.
I would highly recommend this popcorn popper to everyone. This is the best item I have bought this year.

We had been popping Princeton popcorn, the best popcorn on the planet, in a regular pot with a lid. It works pretty well, but we kept having unpopped kernels. We decided to try the heavy duty popper. It works great. The agitator works well to pop all of the corn while keeping the popcorn from burning.
Two things to note, though. First, the popper transmits a lot of heat, so the lid latch is really hot when you finish popping the corn. Second, due to the agitator, the lid isn't the easiest thing to wash.
Overall, though, if you like having movie nights at home with the family, you should get a popper and some Princeton popcorn.
This popper makes a big difference in how well the corn pops. First batch I had maybe 3 pieces that didn't pop. Perfection!
Best quality stovetop popper I have tried
I contemplated this and a few models from Amazon for months. I emailed Farmer Bob and he pointed out the differences and where the extra cost come into play (I work in manufacturing helping run a production facility).
I ordered it and have no regrets! This thing is very well made. The job it does popping is fantastic! I use an infrared top (whatever it's called I just know it's glass and electric). Best popcorn I've ever made, stop reading and buy it already!
I'm a big popcorn eater, but have always used a regular pot with a lid, but having this popper has changed my mind. It works well with the mushroom popper, is heavy duty, and saves you the loud banging that shaking a pot will incur. Plus, it does the job well—using the directions provided, I've had no burnt kernels and very few unpopped kernels. W
We will know more after we use it a few more times.
Had a flimsy version that I bought on Amazon, cheap aluminum and plastic gears. This is night and day from that one. Highly recommend.
We have been enjoying your popcorn and the popper! It is always a blessing to receive a great product.
Wonderful products, love the popcorn, nice and big mushroom shape. Buy it you won’t regret it
This popcorn does exactly what is advertised. It's addictive!
Following a review of the tips sheet included with the popper, we had no trouble getting the desired results. Only one kernel failed to pop and the popcorn was perfect with just a little salt and butter. The popper cleans up with ease in the sink and it's ready to go again.
A great popcorn cooker for the stovetop
Great tool. Easy to use. Fast. Kernels didn't burn as long as I kept it agitated. Used avocado oil great taste.
